Campaign > Young Leaders United

Young Leaders United (YLU) is a new initiative of United Way of Southwestern Indiana created for young professionals ages 40 and under who want to be involved in the community in meaningful ways. The mission of this group is to inspire philanthropy, volunteerism and community leadership in YLU members.

While many events will be open to all, some events & recognition will be reserved for YLU Leadership Donors that give $500+ to United Way annually.

What to expect:
A combination of training luncheons, meet and greets with local community leaders and CEOs, group volunteering and social networking. Participate when you can, don't worry when you can't!

Three ways to get involved:
1.) Give a $10+ per week donation to United Way and check the Young Leaders United box on the pledge form.
2.) Get on our YLU email list to participate in volunteer projects, training sessions and other YLU programs. Email Michelle to get included on the list!
3.) Join us on Facebook! We have a group just for YLU members.

YLU Training Luncheon
Integra Bank sponsored a lunch and training for Young Leader United members. June Miller, Regional Director for the Indiana Nonprofit Resource Network presented "Before You Get on Board! Questions to Ask, Things to Know before Joining a Board of Directors." The training is the first in a series designed especially for our YLU members.

Day of Caring Volunteer Opportunity
Young Leaders United members and Give Back Tristate volunteers joined together to build the first United Way Born Learning Trail. The trail is a unique, learning walk that encourages children to interact with their surroundings. The new trail is near Kid's Kingdom at Sunset Park.

YLU Inaugural Event > YLU Inaugural Event Photo Gallery
The first ever Young Leaders United event took place at Vectren Headquarters in Downtown Evansville. Over one hundred individuals joined in for the inaugural event, which was generously sponsored by Old National Bank and Vectren. The evening featured a panel discussion between four long-time United Way supporters, Niel Ellerbrook, Andy Goebel, Bob Koch, and John H. Schroeder. The speakers also happen to be the living members of the Evansville Business Hall of Fame (a joint venture of Junior Achievement of Southwestern Indiana and the Evansville Business Journal, published by the Evansville Courier and Press). Countless projects in our area would not have been possible without their vision and dedication to philanthropy. They shared their thoughts about giving, community involvement and their early philanthropic endeavors, followed by a question and answer session. Drinks, hors d’ oeuvres and mingling followed the panel discussion.
