United Way of Southwestern Indiana operates a 2-1-1 Center.
2-1-1 is an easy-to-remember telephone number that impacts communities by connecting people with important services and volunteer opportunities. 2-1-1 makes it possible for people in need to navigate the complex and ever-changing maze of human services.

Our mission is to link individuals in need of social services with the appropriate service providers in the community.

If you need help and live in Spencer, Vanderburgh, Warrick, Posey or Gibson Counties, call 2-1-1 or 812-421-2800.

2-1-1 can link you to agencies that provide:

  • Services for senior citizens
  • Counseling and mental health services
  • Recreation and social activities
  • Treatment for substance abuse
  • Services for people with disabilities
  • Home-delivered meals
  • Shelter
  • Health care
  • Services for children and families
  • Emergency food
  • Support groups
  • ...and much more

*Some organizations will need to remove any internal phone system blocks to use 2-1-1.

The 2-1-1 Connection

The state of Indiana offers 16 live 2-1-1 centers serving 74 counties. Together, Indiana’s 2-1-1 Centers served nearly 375,000 callers, recorded nearly 400,000 needs and provided over 500,000 referrals to a network of over 21,000 human service organizations in 2008. The 16 2-1-1 Centers provide 2-1-1 to approximately 90% of all Hoosiers. To learn more about the 2-1-1 efforts in Indiana, please visit www.in211.org.

As of April 2009, 2-1-1 serves over 240 million Americans (more than 80% of the entire population) covering all or part of 46 states (including 33 states with 90%+ coverage) plus Washington DC and Puerto Rico. The remaining states are all in various stages of planning and implementation. Every few weeks, these coverage numbers increase. As of September 2008, more than 9,300,000 Canadians - more than 28% of the population - have access to 2-1-1 services.
