The United Way Volunteer Action Center (VAC) matches volunteers with opportunities at nonprofit organizations year-round, as well as coordinating several programs and annual events that celebrate giving back to our community. VAC strives to serve as a resource for willing volunteers, to strengthen nonprofit agencies by aiding in volunteer recruitment and to help make our community a better place for all of us.

United Way compiles a current list of needed items that you can donate to agencies and clients, as well as volunteer openings at local agencies. The column appears each Sunday in the newspaper.
+ Check out our Volunteer Opportunities booklet > Our Volunteer Handbook, compiled once annually, lists organizations that have indicated an ongoing need for volunteers. The booklet includes general information about volunteering, agency contact names, the agency's mission and typical volunteer opportunities available. Request a booklet via mail by calling 2-1-1 or 812-421-2801.
For Businesses:
+ Participate in Day of Caring > The 2010 Day of Caring will be held on Sept. 10 at The Centre. The Day of Caring is a community-wide event in which United Way connects businesses and volunteers with nonprofit agencies in need of help. In just one day, more than 800 volunteers donate their time and talents to meaningful projects that nonprofits might not otherwise have the resources to accomplish. If your agency would like to submit volunteer opportunities for Day of Caring, please download the volunteer opportunities survey and send it to Cathy Perrin at cperrin@unitedwayswi.org or 812-421-2801.
+ Promote Employee Volunteerism > United Way has a network of businesses that maintain successful employee volunteer programs. United Way can connect you with members of the Business Volunteer Network (BVN) to help you set up your own program and share best practices. To learn more, contact Stephanie.
